Working with cold glass is a process of understanding that your material is rigid, temperamental and fragile. Many times we may have decided on a design and then as we work with the glass or as things change in the kiln, we will need to be flexible and more creative to produce a piece that is acceptable, functional and artistic. We measure and cut each piece. It is then fit and glued lightly, placed in the kiln and fired. We may do this process several times before we are satisfied with the outcome. Then we decide the shape we want and put it back into the kiln for it’s final form.

You may notice that many of our pieces have decorative, multi-design pieces included in the larger design. we cut and fuse these "inclusions" separately and then incorporate them into the design of the larger piece. This creates interest within the bigger work and calls for pre thought and designing on my part.
Most of our art is in the kiln at least 26-30 hours at a time. This helps to reduce the stress within the glass and also aids us in getting the look and texture we am looking for.
